Together We Achieve

RSE Policy

Monday 1st March 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

From the Summer term 2021, we are required by the Department for Education (DfE) to teach RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) at Kneesall C of E Primary School. Many components of RSHE teaching are already being taught at Kneesall through Spiritual, Moral and Cultural Education, Religious Education, Science, PE, Computing and Wellbeing activities.

There are three strands of RSHE:

Relationships Education – taught from Foundation to Year 6

Health Education - taught from Foundation to Year 6

Sex Education – Year 6 only (children can be withdrawn from the elements which are additional to the National Curriculum Science. Parental permission will be gained and there will be ab opportunity to view the materials before commencing unit)

Relationships Education will include the following units:

  1. Families and people who care for me
  2. Caring friendships
  3. Respectful relationships
  4. Online relationships
  5. Being safe

Health Education will include the following units:

  1. Mental wellbeing
  2. Internet safety and harms
  3. Physical health and fitness
  4. Healthy eating
  5. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
  6. Health and prevention
  7. First Aid
  8. Changing Adolescent Body.

Sex Education is one unit which is taught in the Summer team to Year 6 children (with parental permission). This unit includes:

Explanation of how human reproduction occurs, including conception, pregnancy and birth.

Each unit will be taught at an age-appropriate level, and will progress through Foundation to KS1 to KS2, building on previous learning. We want to ensure children are supported to become independent, positive and well-informed children who know how to recognise and benefit from positive relationships both personally and online, and how to maintain physical and mental wellness.

Please see the Relationships and Sex Education Policy, which can be read by clicking on the pdf file below. We invite you to provide comments and views in writing via email to by Monday 15th March.

With best wishes
