    • Spellings

Children will learn spelling rules and Y1 / 2 words which are listed in the National Curriculum. Please support your child to hear and pinch the sounds on their fingers. You can also use the look, say, cover, write, check method for learning the spellings. Children should practice learning their weekly spellings and their meaning at home to reinforce class learning. We recommend 5 minutes each day to help secure the new knowledge. Spellings will be tested each week.

    • Maths fluency

Children should practise fluency and arithmetic activities for 5 minutes daily using a number of programmes including Times Tables Rock Stars, Numbots and White Rose1-minute maths (free app 1-minute maths app | White Rose Education). Activities will be set on TT Rock stars to complete weekly. https://ttrockstars.com/

At the end of Year 2, children should be able to fluently recall  the 10, 5 and 2 times tables.

    • Reading

We love stories! A love of reading is encouraged at school through the texts we teach and the lovely stories we share. It is a joy to hear your child talk so enthusiastically about a book, comic, newspaper, graphic novel, encyclopaedia or the Bible! Children should read at least 5 times weekly for 10 minutes to an adult at home and record this in their reading diary. We are awarding a team point every time your child reads at home!

    • Summer 1 Home Learning Task    This half-term we are sharing the story of The Bog Baby, by Jeanne Willis. We would like your child to make up their own Bog Baby character (a mythical creature that lives in a bog). We continue to focus our home learning on writing, so we would like your child to write about their Bog Baby, and making sure they use interesting adjectives (describing words) to inform us what it looks like, where it lives, what it does, and always writing in sentences please. If your child has time to illustrate their writing it would be lovely to see a picture of their Bog Baby too!

Please support your child to spell all words correctly and to try their very best with their handwriting and sentence punctuation. We are working on always remembering capital letters at the beginning of sentences, full stops at the end and with finger spaces between all words.

Thank you so much for your continued support. We have been really impressed with the tasks completed at home so far this year, and are so proud to display them in our classroom.

If you need any support with this half-term's Home Learning Task, please ask Mrs Hudson & Mrs McMahon.
