Homework in Year One will comprise of Reading and Spelling (please see the spelling page for more information on these). Every few days your child will come home with a new RWI book that they will have already read and done some work with in their RWI (Read Write Inc.) lesson. Being familiar with the text already, your children should be able to focus on building fluency and talking about what they read. There are some prompts within the book to help you support them with their comprehension. Please write in their Reading Record (orange) books when you have read with them so we can see how regularly they are practicing. We encourage children to read for ten minutes every day. Each week if your child reads three times, they will earn three hundred squares.
In Year Two, children will complete Reading and Spellings like in Year One, and will also be encouraged to take part in Times Tables Rockstars. Your children can find their log-in details in the front of their Reading Records. The games can be accessed via the website or the app. Here children can build their speed and knowledge in 2s, 5s and 10s times tables (division facts too). This will help them have a solid foundation for learning the other timestables when they begin Key Stage Two. One written task will be sent home weekly on Friday to be returned by Wednesday of the following week please. This task should take approximately 10-15 minutes and will be linked to class learning. Please complete written homework in pencil, and present neatly, to the high standards expected in class.
