Homework

Spellings

Children will learn spelling rules and Y1 / 2 words which are listed in the National Curriculum. Please support your child to hear and pinch the sounds on their fingers. You can also use the look, say, cover, write, check method for learning the spellings. Children should practice learning their weekly spellings and their meaning at home to reinforce class learning. We recommend 5 minutes each day to help secure the new knowledge. Spellings will be tested each Tuesday.

Maths fluency

Children should practise fluency and arithmetic activities for 5 minutes daily using a number of programmes including Times Tables Rock Stars, Numbots and White Rose1-minute maths (free app 1-minute maths app | White Rose Education). Activities will be set on TT Rock stars to complete weekly. https://ttrockstars.com/

At the end of Year 2, children should be able to fluently recall  the 10, 5 and 2 times tables.

Reading

We love stories! A love of reading is encouraged at school through the texts we teach and the lovely stories we share. It is a joy to hear your child talk so enthusiastically about a book, comic, newspaper, graphic novel, encyclopedia or the Bible! Children should read at least 5 times weekly for 10 minutes to an adult at home and record this in their reading diary.

Half term Project

Each half term, children will be given a half term project to work on. This will vary each half term, and may include research, well-being or creative learning opportunities.

Now that the children have settled into school I thought I'd share our half-term project. This term we are looking at Victorians and I would like your child to either:

1. Draw and compare some Victorian toys to our modern-day counterparts! or

2. Find a Victorian building in your local area and take a picture of it!

We are also looking at digital wellbeing so you could instead do a poster on how the internet is useful and how it helps us!

Please can they bring their project into school on or before the 18th of October.

Thank you,

Miss Newton
