For your RE learning this week, I would like you to read the story of The Lost Son (sometimes known as The Prodigal Son). See the PowerPoint below. This is a story about a two brothers, who were given some money. One brother spent all his money whilst the other saved it. When the brother who spent all his money realised he had nothing left, he was sad and returned home. His brother wasn’t happy to see him but his Dad said we should celebrate that he is no longer lost.

After reading the story, draw a picture of the two brothers and the Dad. Can you write a speech bubble for what they said about the Lost brother’s return? Think about how they all felt about him coming back.

Making headdresses!

Look at the pictures of headdresses below. Brazilian people would wear these in their Samba parades as part of their famous carnivals! Watch the video about carnival costumes: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zqmpvcw Did you hear the Samba music at the parade? Aren’t those costumes pretty!

Today I would like you to have a go at designing your own carnival headdress. If you have the materials at home, you may even like to make it! Here is my design! Do you see how I started by drawing the band that will sit around my head? Then I added colourful feathers and gems! I can’t wait to see your headdress designs!

So our new topic is all about Brazil! Use Google Earth to search for and locate Brazil. Use the search or zoom function to take a closer look and identify any human features. Human features are things humans have built or put in a place that would not be there if it weren’t for humans, for example: houses; roads; bridges.

Use geographical vocabulary to identify human features and record them in a list. Think about what it might be like to live there, answering questions, such as 'What size is this place? What human features can you see? What do you think it would be like to live there?'

As you may have read on our Curriculum page, our new topic is Rio de Vida! Please spend a few minutes listening to this Samba music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93_OUamJvoI to get you in the mood! When you have finished, complete a mind map with the word Samba written in the middle. Then write words that you think Samba sounds like, makes you feel like and what mood it creates! Some words I thought of were: drums, loud, rhythm, happy, dance, fun! You could even have a go of drawing some pictures to represent the beats and rhythms you hear.
