Homework

Spellings 

Children will learn spelling rules and Y3 / 4 words which are listed in the National Curriculum. The teaching of spelling is supported through the Read Write Inc. Spelling Scheme for Year 3 and Year 4. Children should practise learning their weekly spellings and their meaning at home to reinforce class learning. Spellings will be tested each Monday morning.

Maths fluency

Children should practise fluency and arithmetic activities for 5 minutes daily using a number of programmes including Times Tables Rock Stars, Numbots and White Rose1-minute maths (free app). Activities will be set on TT Rock stars to complete weekly. https://ttrockstars.com/

 

At the end of Year 2, children should be able to fluently recall  the 10, 5 and 2 times tables. In Year 3, we learn the 4, 8, and 3 times tables. By the end of Year 4, children should be able to quickly and accurately recall times tables up to 12 x 12. The order times tables is taught is 10, 5, 2, 4, 8, 3, 6, 9, 7, 11, 12.

 

Reading

We love stories! A love of reading is encouraged at school through the texts we teach and the lovely stories we share. It is a joy to hear your child talk so enthusiastically about a book, comic, newspaper, graphic novel, encyclopedia or the Bible! Children should read at least 5 times weekly for 10 minutes to an adult at home and record this in their reading diary.

 

Half term Project

Each half term, children will be given a half term project to work on. This will vary each half term, and may include research, well-being or creative learning opportunities.

Summer 2 Project 

Please complete and bring to school on 16th July to share with the class. 

 

Choose one of the following tasks for your RIVERS focused project:

 

Research a river in the local area, in the UK or worldwide and create a poster presentation.

- Make a model of a river, label with the name and features of the river.

- Prepare a PowerPoint or video - ideas include- explain how a river is formed, how rivers benefit us or the impact of flooding as examples.
